Microweddings, Elopements and the 2021 comeback.
/Hello from this Devon wedding wedding photographers HQ! I can’t believe this is the first blog post I have written about weddings since the start of January this year. Covid-19 and the global pandemic did of course continue to shape the start of celebrations for happy couples everywhere this year with the roadmap causing early winter, spring and summer marriages to be postponed until later in 2021. With restrictions rolling on longer micro weddings and smaller, more intimate elopement ceremonies gained popularity. I was very lucky to be able to shoot a couple of micro weddings during early spring after a glut of postponements as wedding venues across Devon and Cornwall saw engaged couples shift their party plans to later in the year. I won’t lie, it has been tough, I can barely believe that over a year after the pandemic began I still have many wedding celebrations on my books that I am waiting to photograph. I saw around 90 reschedules in all, which is enough to send anyone’s head in a spin! However as we start to near the midway point in the year things are lining up to be much more positive as restrictions start to ease, talk that social distancing will be reduced or removed entirely come summer is a massive ray of light for all of those involved in both booking their wedding and those working in the wedding industry. I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing Devon’s wedding venues come alive with laughter, hugs, tears and dancing once again. It has felt like a long, long ride but we are getting there!
Next to come on the blog will be the recent intimate micro wedding that I photographed at the gorgeous Cornish country home, Pentillie Castle.
