Devon Wedding Photographer Lockdown Diaries - Covid19

We shall celebrate again

Wow, so life as a Devon wedding photographer in 2020 is looking rather different to what I had anticipated! Having just broken into May and what should be the start of Devon’s peak wedding photography season life has taken a very different turn of events since Covid19 or coronavirus as it is more commonly known reared its ugly head. I was on a landscape photography trip to South Africa when things took a turn for the worse and at the point South Africa closed its borders I was camped on a remote mountain. With only two days to go until a natonwide lockdown was announced to commence we had to abort the trip, head back down the mountain and hurriedly get back to Johannesburg to catch an early flight home. From the moment the heavy mist closed in around us on the mountainside as the news broke to the time I had boarded the plane it had become very clear the vast impact that the now global pandemic was having on the wedding industry. I arrived home to a deathly quiet London Heathrow and the news that several of my upcoming weddings had had to have been postponed by my devastated couples. Jet-lagged and shell-shocked, I watched email after email pour in and my business for this year’s wedding season rapidly disintegrate around my ears. It was a dark week coming to terms with what was happening, all the while in self-isolation, but it was also time to hunker down and set about ensuring that all of my lovely couples that needed to postpone their weddings due to Coronavirus were able to do so with minimal stress and worry (and also to enjoy some birthday cake on what was officially the strangest birthday I have ever had!). A few little snippets of that first week are below.

Although it still feels like a confusing and uncertain time for us all, it is amazing the amount of positivity that has come from the Coronavirus pandemic so far; and that has extended into the world of weddings where now more than ever, couples cannot wait to come together to celebrate with their loved ones when they are able. 2021 is already set to be a year of great celebration, with strengthened appreciation of being able to spend time with our loved ones. There are so many things that this experience has made us grateful for, and for me, being a wedding photographer is one of them, which might seem strange to say at this current moment but it has only resolved my love of photographing weddings and I cannot wait to get back out there to capture your amazing wedding celebrations! If you’d like to book me to photograph your wedding please get in touch, i’d love to hear from you.
